Ondoy

Typhoon Ondoy, the biggest motherfucker of them all, came and went, ravishing and wrecking lives in its path. And yet, the people are still smiling and waving. The resilience of the Filipino people never ceases to amaze me. Right after the storm, people started cleaning their muddy homes and picking through what is left of their belongings.

When Hurricane Katrina happened, I was still living in Texas. Since Texas is right next to Louisiana, about 35,000 victims sought refuge in the Lone Star state.Through FEMA, Hurricane Katrina survivors were given housing and an allowance to buy food, etc. There was even one case of a woman who used her FEMA money to buy a Louis Vuitton bag. If you must suffer, suffer in style, right?

I wonder what our government will do to help the Ondoy victims. Build a crappy housing facility and hope it can withstand the next major calamity? I guess all there is left to do is pray and hope nothing bad happens.
